January 1st of every new year always brings out the best intentions of just about everyone to set a new years resolution or two.But one of the more popular resolutions usually revolve around a person going on a diet, eating better, exercising, possibly taking vitamins if they are not already doing so,and just really trying to take better care of themselves.I will be starting another blog that will feature ways to help people start eating better as well of a blog that will keep a record of my own progress on both weight loss and my exercise efforts that I am planning on adding both stretching, stationary bike, and regular calisthenics ,as well as some weight lifting along with hiking in the summer and I will be adding new information on the blog throughout the year. But for a lot of people that start out with the right intentions for whatever reason seem to have trouble staying focused for even part of the new year.Which brings me to this portion of this blog to try and give my insight as to why this happens. But first allow me to make sure if you are reading this that I know that not all people fall into this category and that lots of people will in fact stay focused and will actually achieve their goal of say losing 50 pounds in one calendar year.So the next three paragraphs will give my top three reasons why people seem to have trouble staying focused on a goal after setting one up for the new year.
- In my opinion the number one reason why some people are not able to stay on track and focused after setting a goal or a new years resolution is that they have possibly set their goal to high.Because if a person is say 100 pounds overweight they should probably not try to lose this amount in one year.In this case I would say that they might consider to set up their goal of losing just 5 to 7 pounds per month. One reason for this group to possibly consider to only set their goal for 5 to 7 pounds per month is because they should not try and exercise until they have lost the first 50 pounds or they have consulted with their Doctor. And then for some that get into a really good nutritional program losing 100 pounds in one calendar year might become a reality but these people are probably not going to be your average people but rather the low end of the percentage.Next you will have the group that might only need to lose about 25 pounds. It will be easy for these people to just do the math and just try and lose an average of 2 pounds per week for them. But remember that everyone has to take into consideration that proper nutrition is of the utmost importance when taking on any new diet and exercise program but I assume that for most this is finally getting to be pretty much common knowledge these days.
- The number two reason in my opinion that leads to some people not being able to stay focused in order to achieve a goal or a new years resolution they had set up to follow on an everyday basis is because of them not writing down the goals and the steps that they would need to take in order to even have a chance of achieving their new years goal.
- And now the number three but possibly the worst as far as self infliction when it comes to some people never being able to follow through and achieve a goal they had set up at the beginning of a new year is just plain old excuses.A lot of people will state that they have set up a new years resolution or goal for the new year and actually start out quite well for awhile. But then after a few weeks for whatever reason some people start to make excuses for themselves. The excuses they commonly make revolve around statements either to themselves or possibly a family member or friend or co-worker saying that they just do not have the time or being to tired after work to keep doing the exercise portion of the program they had started. And then when this happens a lot of people take the oh well stance when it comes to eating high calorie, low nutrition types of fast foods for example. They seem to just get lazy since they were not able to keep up with all parts of the goal and then lose interest in the other parts as well. But make no mistake if a person is starting to eat better and at least possibly taking a muti vitamin and are in fact starting to lose a little weight this particular person should not let themselves become discouraged but instead just stay the course.Because they could possibly change or alter their personal goal a little as opposed to giving up.Then after a while of staying in a routine of getting better sleep, eating better, and possibly taking a multi vitamin at the minimum this person might be able to restart up the exercise portion of their goal and get right back on track.Because as everyone knows just simply losing weight is not the way to achieve optimum health but that exercise and proper nutrition will have to be just as big a portion of any ones goal. But everyone should always consult with their Doctor before undertaking any weight loss and exercise and nutritional program and also get a common check up first
Now is the time to get motivated.I am a 57 years old man.I am 6 foot 4
inches tall.As of January 1st 2010 I weighed 234 pounds.
